The heroes return to Winterhaven, just to find the gates closed, and a group of guards on the battlements. Lord Padraig informs them that several villagers have disappeared, and that in the nearby cemetery, dead are starting to raise!
The group arrives at the cemetery, and finds several undead stalking the grounds. They are led by Ninaran, the elf spy of Kalarel, who has followed the heroes' steps so far. The enemies are dealt with, and Neri manages to disrupt a necromantic circle that caused the raising of udead. They also find on Ninaran a message from Kalarel, containing a password to access the second level of the Keep.
After informing Lord Padraig about the hobgoblin slaver ring that may attack them, the Heroes return to the Keep, and, entering the second level, are faced by Hobgoblin sentries. Unfortunately, the password they found on Ninaran was a fake, and the hobgoblins raise the alarm.
After killing the hobgoblin chieftain, the group captures one of the humanoids, intimidating him into revealing Kalarel hideout. The Hobgoblin tricks them, and deliveres them to the lair of a Gelatinous Cube, who almost steals the life of Dizantar. After dealing with this last threat, the group decides to barricade into the hobgoblin chieftain's quarter, and recover their strengths.
On their awakening, they go deeper into the Keep, where they meet an Orcus Unperpriest, lieutenant of Kalarel, and finally, in a cathedral where a Dark Portal was about to open, Kalarel himself.
After a long fight, the heroes, using their last drops of power, manage to defeat Kalarel, who is sucked into the Dark Portal, as the same disappears. The day is saved.
The group returns to Winterhaven, where they are hailed as Champions of Good.
