Chapter 40 - The Siege of Moonstairs

The undead army of Lord Raven approaches Moonstairs. The sky is darkened even more by flying skeletal dragons, vomiting poisonous sludge on the field.

Crimson and Vermille, the Eladrin Vampire twins, servitors of Lord Raven, request the surrender of the town, and promise to leave Moonstair standing if the Red Priest is delivered to them. The heroes refuse, and prepare for the attack. Moonstairs town watch, Rudd's army, Waylander's shadar-kai, and Zakonik's tribe clashes against the endless hordes of undead of Lord Raven.

The heroes take action to decapitate the monstrous army, and destroy its leaders. They face the elite troops of the army, Ghostly Warriors eternally bound to their swords. They are lead by terrible Bodaks, who can kill by just gazing at a foe.

They destroy Lord Raven's siegewyrm, a terrible beast capable of killing entire armies. They battle Crimson and Vermille themselves, barely surviving their mental powers of domination.

And finally, they face Lord Raven, once known as Aramus, riding his Dracolich. Aramus life force is bound to his minions, making it difficult for the heroes to destroy him quickly. During the terrible fight, Waylander is crunched to death by Lord Raven's Dracolich, but promptly brought back to life by Daedrie primal powers. He gets his revenge, stabbing Lord Raven one last time, and destroying him for good.

Lord Raven, still clutching Unfettered, one of the nine swords of the Sublime Way, apologizes to Rudd for all the pain he has caused, and finally dies.

The Red Priest approaches, and holds her father one last time in her arms. She thanks the heroes for all they've done, and wishes them good luck for the future. Sensing the emissaries of the Raven Queen approaching, she closes her eyes, still holding her father, and dies.
