Once into the mountain, they have a chance encounter with a group of hobgoblin, who are detaining an halfling. After taking care of the goblinoids, the Heroes discover that the halfling is Rendil Halfmoon, owner of an inn, the only inn, in the Seven-pillared Hall. Rendil thanks them, and offers them hospitality into his inn.
Once into the Hall, the group has a short fight with Brugg, the Ogre enforcer of the Mages of Saruun, the Masters of the Hall. After defeating Brugg, they force him to bring them to a Mage. Brugg does so, and accuses them of having started the fight. Orontar, the Mage of Saruun, realizes the group strength, and offers them a quest. He fears for a rogue member of the Mages, Paldemar, who has not reported in many weeks, and is probably dabbling in Demonic magic.
The group accepts, and seek Gendar the Drow, to deliver the dagger given to them by Bairwin in Winterhaven. Gendar takes the opportunity to tell the hero of how the Duergar have stolen a relic from him, a scepter, and promises a reward if they can recover it.
Before departing for the Chamber of Eyes, where the Bloodreavers are supposed to be stationed, the Heroes visit the Deepgem Company, a dwarven merchant house led by Ulthand Deepgem. Sharing dwarven liquor with Tootak, Ulthand revelas that his precious pet, a dire boar, has been stolen by a band of Gnolls during one of his latest mining expeditions. Suggesting to keep their eyes open for these creatures, he bids them farewell and good luck.
